Ragworms
Ragworms are marine organisms that occasionally swim upstream to rivers and even climb to land. They are commonly found in all water depths, living in seaweeds, hiding under rocks or burrowing in sand or mud. Ragworms are mainly omnivores but many are active carnivores.
A ragworms nervous system consists of a that is connected to the ventral nerve cord, and the sub ganglia, by a special set of nerves called the circum-pharyngeal connectives. The ventral
nerve cord is surrounded by a sheath whichs function is to be a place holder for the muscles that move the animal. This sheath acts as an anchor for the muscles that move the animal. Its nerve cord contains two nerve fibres, normal and giant nerves. The ventral nerve cord runs the whole length of the animal and has sets of nerves in each segment.
